50 participants from all over the country attended the Skills for Social Entrepreneurs training in Beijing from 14 March to 19 March, which was jointly organised by the British Council and YouChange (China Social Entrepreneur Foundation).
The trainees include both experienced NGO practitioners and new starters with creative ideas. They are working in diverse areas such as poverty-relief, care for the old people, employment, education, environmental protection, the disabled and rural development. Despite the different backgrounds, they came together with the same objective - for a better understanding of social enterprise and the relative skills and for more effective solutions to the social challenges.
The five trainers were Steve Koon, a professional trainer holding MPA of Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University with many years of experience of promoting social enterprise, Ding Li, the deputy director of Non-profit Incubator (NPI), Professor Zhu Jiangang from Sun Yat-sen University, Song Qinghua, director of Shining Stone Community Action and Li Liya, director of Centre for Social Invention. Mike Harland, the UK consultant and the key course designer, provided technical support to the trainers through the whole six days.
